Jason Emery
Principal Geotechnical Engineer
Jason is the Director and Principal Geotechnical Engineer of Optimum Geotechnics. He earned a PhD in Mining Geomechanics from the University of New South Wales (UNSW) and, in addition, has over 20 years of operational experience, including working in several high-performing teams. Optimum Geotechnics leverages this experience along with the latest tools and methodologies to deliver clients best-in-class ground control solutions for today, whilst also continuously innovating for the solutions of tomorrow.
Jon Burton
Lead Geotechnical Specialist
Jon is a focused, results-driven Geotechnical Engineer with over 14 years of experience in the mining industry. Jon has been involved in mining projects spanning from pre-feasibility to life-of-mine stages, and has successfully led and managed teams to provide solutions and improvements across multiple technical functions in challenging mining environments.
Boris Pavlicevic
Mining & Geotechnical Engineer
Boris is a Mining Engineer with a Master’s in Mining Engineering and a strong focus on geotechnical engineering in underground coal mining. Currently working at Kestrel Coal Mine in Emerald, QLD, contributing to the safety, stability, and performance of underground operations from a technical perspective, grounded in practical field experience. Boris is passionate about integrating modern tools, data-driven approaches, and automation into geotechnical workflows to enhance understanding and address underground challenges. He is constantly exploring how automation, data science, and AI-powered tools can enhance decision-making and optimise geotechnical outcomes.
Zulaicha Indralia
Geologist
Zu is a young, enthusiastic Geologist with a strong focus on geotechnical engineering in underground coal mining. Currently working at Kestrel Coal Mine in Emerald, QLD, contributing to the safety, stability, and performance of underground operations from a technical perspective. Zu is a real asset to both Optimum Geotechnics and our clients.

Mining & Geotechnical Engineer
Stefan is a Mining Engineer with a Master’s in Mining Engineering and a strong focus on geotechnical engineering in underground coal mining. He is currently working through his inexperienced UG workers program.
